Times are not always so good. We have enjoyed so much jubilation recently in our culture given the economic booms of the last several decades, that it is almost unnatural. The little things like having salt and pepper on the dinner table are often taken for granted. Issues are only heard when they become large, like epidemics of aids or suicides. There is a natural ebb and flow of the tides as sailors know, and after studying physics and philosophy in high school, I was soon taught that almost everything in the universe has a tendency to expand and contract, and repeat this cycle. What goes up much come down, is the old saying that some would call a cliche'.
